White As Snow

As a “maybe” winter storm approaches Raleigh, I have had snow on the brain. It’s usually just a tease from the weather guru’s, but I’m praying we finally get some of the white stuff around these parts! Just for fun, I decided to look up all the references to snow in the Bible. There are over 20 in the ESV translation. They have varying contexts, but I wanted to focus on the images of our Heavenly Father and how He is described in the scriptures. Check out the following passages and let your imagination take over as you consider God’s glorious image.

“As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire. Daniel 7:9

His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. Matthew 28:3

The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, Revelation 1:14

What is even more amazing . . . than the images Daniel, Matthew and Revelations reveal about our Heavenly Father (and that it might snow in Raleigh) is that in His mighty LOVE for us . . . . He wants to cover all of our ugly, dirty, flawed flesh and make them white as snow.

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. Isaiah 1:18

I hope you are reading this from a place that already has some snow on the ground or on its way. As you sit and watch God empty His heavenly storehouses laden with snow ~ try to imagine each flake as a hug, an embrace and an “I forgive you” from your Father in Heaven. After the snow falls, everything looks perfect and beautiful. The muddy construction site, the pile of trash that hasn’t been taken to the curb and whatever else is trashing up your view are all made beautiful when covered in snow. That is what God does with our sins and the ripple effect they can cause – if we ask! Whatever sin has been blocking our amazing view of the Father, I pray that today we ask Him to cover it and make it white as snow.

Let it Snow!!! Let it Snow!!! Let it Snow!!!
