No more Bandaids!

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people? Jeremiah 8:22 (NIV)

If you have followed my blog long you know my mind words in mysterious ways. In other words ~ I think about the craziest things. I think it my insatiable desire to see God in the ordinary. AND it doesn’t get more ordinary than a ~ Bandaid. It’s a word (especially as moms) we use a lot. When our kids are younger a Bandaid can fix anything, even when there isn’t any blood. But they don’t believe in the power of a bandaid for long.

According to the word “band” means a thin, flat strip of some material for binding, confining, trimming, protecting. And “aid” means to provide support for or relief to; to help. Bandaids cover wounds. They hold together skin that has been torn apart or they protect injuries from germs and bath water (It stings! It stings!) BUT, bandaids grow soggy when we bathe, the sticky wears off and they need to be replaced often.  It can’t withstand the elements. It won’t last forever and it doesn’t really keep all the germs and “stingy” bath water out.

Babylon (sin city) will suddenly fall and be broken. Wail over her! Get balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed. Jeremiah 51:8 NIV

So . . . . what’s the point?!

God! When our hearts need repair. When things feel like they have been shattered and torn apart. Why do we often look for a “bandaid fix”? A temporary aid to cover the pain (shopping, alcohol, denial, pit dwelling, you name your poison or should I say idol?). When God covers a wound, His balm (His healing) never runs out.  It never changes.  It never needs replacing. It never grows soggy UNLESS we don’t seek it, use it, cover ourselves in it and choose it.

The very God who threw the skies into space, set earth on a firm foundation, and breathed his own life into men and women,  (Zechariah 12:1 MSG) Our God is the ultimate treatment for our wounds, our sins and our brokenness. He can handle it!

The next time you need forgiveness, repair, strength, restoration and someone to pick up the pieces of a broken situation ~ will you grab the bandaid or the One who threw the skies into space and breathed His life into you?

He was broken and pierced on the cross so that you and I could have complete restoration.

Holy to the Lord!

Zech. 14:20 NIV
