Thirty Days in Zechariah: an ordinary girl takes on an extraordinary book

So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. Zechariah 4:6 NIV

The book of Zechariah has touched me in so many ways and now it brings me joy to share it with you!

Ever been discouraged? Felt like giving up? Spend thirty days in the book of Zechariah and discover how the prophet of Zechariah encouraged and motivated God’s people to return to Him. Although these words were written years ago they are still relevant for us today. This Bible study (that can be done independently or as a group) is a glorious reminder that God is at work in our lives every day. We may have grown numb to His touch, deaf to His whisper, blind to His ways or hardened to His love, but He is still there. Still working. Still loving. Still seeking your heart.

And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within. Zechariah 2:5 NIV

The hole in your faith

Standard

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Psalm 90:2 NIV

I was thinking  . . . . it’s interesting how we believe what the newspapers and internet say, but question what the Bible says. It’s sad how quick we will dismiss what the Bible says because the world has changed since it was written.  I think the landscape has changed, but I don’t think they human heart has changed one bit. I don’t think Satan’s desire to deceive us and lead us astray and into sin has changed. I don’t think our God has changed – nor His mighty promises. Think about it . . . .

This week will you join me in pondering what it is we don’t buy into about God’s word? What is it that you question? What would you ask an angel of the Lord right now if given the opportunity? What don’t you trust? Where is your faith lacking?

It isn’t easy, but this is an important question for each of us to answer. If we don’t face the weak spot, it will continue to grow bigger and bigger until it overtakes all of our faith. It like a slow rot. It takes courage and strength to look inside our hearts and see what is there, but when we do  – when we face the question or uncertainty and ask God to change it into a stronger faith and trust in Him ~ He honors that. No, it may not happen over night, but He will honor your desire to trust and follow Him.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34 NIV

When you discover this hole in your faith: 1) take it to God in prayer 2) look in your Bible or ask a pastor for some verses that reaffirm God’s promise you are questioning 3) write out those verses on cards and place them around your home, office, car or school 4) read them over and over and continue to pray throughout the month 5) keep a little journal on your phone or on paper about how God is showing you his glory and truth – how his is opening your eyes and heart and growing you closer to Him.

I would love to hear about what the hole in your faith is, the verses you discover bring you strength and your journey to a stronger faith and trust in God. Please e-mail me at atcain2@earthlink.net to share your story.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. Psalm 136:1-3 NIV

People are watching!

Standard

Companions as we are in this work with you, we beg you, please don’t squander one bit of this marvelous life God has given us. God reminds us, I heard your call in the nick of time; The day you needed me, I was there to help.Well, now is the right time to listen, the day to be helped. Don’t put it off; don’t frustrate God’s work by showing up late, throwing a question mark over everything we’re doing.

Our work as God’s servants gets validated—or not—in the details. People are watching us as we stay at our post, alertly, unswervingly . . . in hard times, tough times, bad times; when we’re beaten up, jailed, and mobbed; working hard, working late, working without eating; with pure heart, clear head, steady hand; in gentleness, holiness, and honest love;

when we’re telling the truth, and when God’s showing his power; when we’re doing our best setting things right; when we’re praised, and when we’re blamed; slandered, and honored; true to our word, though distrusted; ignored by the world, but recognized by God; terrifically alive, though rumored to be dead; beaten within an inch of our lives, but refusing to die; immersed in tears, yet always filled with deep joy; living on handouts, yet enriching many; having nothing, having it all. 2 Corinthians 6:1-10 (MSG)

Read it again. I love these verses from 2 Corinthians. What a beautiful reminder that we are called, we are chosen, we are His children . . . don’t waste it. When we grow weary, we must remember . . . God will show up so that the people watching us live out our lives will wonder how we do it, how we make it, how we handle it, how we stay firmly rooted and how we find continuous joy.  Don’t leave your post – don’t give up! God hears YOUR call. He will answer. He alone has the power to help us endure, carry on, find the courage, keep the strength and live grateful for the journey.

In His love, Allison

Got Quiet?

Standard

found the reason I couldn’t relax was I had a noisy mind, and it ...

Right now –

–       Look at your calendar right now and block off 20 minutes in your week that you will spend with God. Maybe it’s right now. (You probably want to be alone for this)

–      Make yourself a promise you take this seriously and guard this time on your calendar just like you would your hair appointment, pedicure or girl’s night out!

–       Pick a scripture that touches you or has been in your weekly devotion. If you can’t think of any – don’t worry. I have some at the bottom of the page – no excuses.

During your time with God –

–       Sit in a quiet spot

–       Read the scripture you have chosen or that God has led you to.

–       Close your eyes, reflect on His words, be still, listen for His whisper

What it will do for you –

–       I pray it brings you closer to God, that it allows you to hear His whisper, renews your mind and begins to teach you that being still is ok. This world tells us to be worth anything we have to move all the time. That is a lie. God tells us over and over in scripture to be still.

What now?

–       Consider putting this meeting with God on your calendar every week. My prayer is that as you do this you begin to desire more and more of this stillness with Him and the meetings begin to happen daily instead of just weekly.

“Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes! 1 Samuel 12:16 NIV

The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. Isaiah 32:17 NIV

“Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. 32 If you have anything to say, answer me; speak up, for I want to vindicate you. 33 But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom. Job 33:31-33 NIV
