Are you Chicken?

Standard

This is a video of my son and one of our chickens. Yes, we have six chickens in the city and I admit I love them as much as our dog, Trudy!

Which one do you think would symbolically represent God and which one would represent you. As I watched this, I pictured God stretching out His hand offering me what I’m been waiting on ~ a blessing, an answer to prayer, my next step and me running like a scared chicken. I wonder how many times we miss out on what God is trying to bless us with because we are afraid? Because we are as Mark Batterson says, “more concerned with our qualifications than we are what God has “called” us  to do.”

The day I let God in and let Him clean out all the junk I’d been carrying around out of my heart is the day He put me to work for His glory. I don’t want to deceive you ~ I carried it for a long time before I finally gave it up. I was holding on to the shame and guilt from past decisions and they were keeping me running scared. Satan loved it ~ there is not doubt about it.

“You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me!And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want. John 5:39-40 (The Message)

God has so much to offer us. I tell people all the time how I’m not a writer or a speaker, but God changed my heart and has equipped me for the job He has set before me. With God, I am a writer and a speaker that thrives on sharing Him with others. It’s thrilling to me that He uses ordinary people like me and you for His glory. Literally, the weak to lead the strong. Honestly, there are still days I wonder why and where it is all going. I still get a little nervous about what the next phone call will be and how many people I will have the opportunity to share Him with, but He whispers, “I’ve got this!” and I have learned that as long as He shows up we will pull it off. After speaking to a group of women recently, a women came up to me and said, “Thank you so much. That was so unexpected. It actually took a lot of notes.” I giggled to myself because every time I share others with Christ, speak or write a book I think “that was unexpected.” God is able and He will equip you.

Are you chicken? Has God laid something on your heart that He is nudging you to do that you are feeling very qualified for? Feeling as if it’s a little above your skills? I’m right there with you! But, it’s time to step out. Just one step at a time, but step out. HE WILL EQUIP YOU! I am living proof that we are not able, but God is. Trust Him today and leave the chickens in my back yard!

Let’s get out there for God and as my son says, “Let’s do this thing!”

Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:13-14 (ESV)
