The kids were enjoying their favorite TV show one afternoon when our dog started barking at a car that pulled up and parked in front of our house. They started yelling over the barking, “Trudy, STOP BARKING! We can’t hear.” and were on their way to grab her when I stepped in. “She is only doing her job. She is protecting you. Don’t punish her for it.”
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.3 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.Psalm 121:1-4 NIV
I am guilty of doing that same thing in my relationship with God. When things aren’t going the way I want them to go, the way I planned, the way I thought it would turn out . . . I begin to question God, get angry, wonder “why me?”, “why now?” instead of trusting. Having faith that God knows and I don’t. He knows what is best for each of us. Knows what we need to draw us closer to Him and wants to protect us. I am beginning to trust more and more. Trusting that when I am delayed because of a car problem, a diaper blow out, a spilled smoothie or a slow driver God’s protecting me or putting me where I need to be FOR HIM and His glory – at just the right time. Instead of getting upset, impatient, angry or resentful ~ look for God and praise Him for being in every detail of your life and loving you enough to be there.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.11 Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12 NIV
God never sleeps or slumbers so He never stops doing His job protecting, loving, forgiving, guiding . . . don’t let Satan win by slipping in with His tentacles of doubt, fear, anger and questioning spirit. There’s so much more to this fight we are in. Put on the armor of God because our daily fight is about more than we can perceive or imagine.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God,so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:13-17 NIV
